Astrology this week:
Venus is conjunct the North Node today. This is shortly following the recent eclipse, suggesting an increased potency in this conjunction. We can think about a North Node conjunction as a moment of greater appetite. Be mindful of any increased Venusian impulses the next 48 hours or so and, if you can, indulge them!
The Sun moves into Taurus on Friday (Venus’s Day!). This is a slow transition for the Sun this year, as Venus is still within Aries until a couple of weeks from now and can’t see or support the Sun in her sign of Taurus. However, Jupiter is still there and will be helping with the Sun’s move into the springtime fixed sign.
The biggest news for today’s astrology is that Jupiter and Uranus are once again conjunct and will stay that way off and on until next Thursday when Jupiter begins to move on toward Gemini. The last time a conjunction like this happened was in 2011 (in Pisces) and the next time it will happen will be in 2037 (in Cancer).
Jupiter brings the significations of excess, optimism, faith, religion, expansion, and growth. Uranus brings the significations of surprise, explosion, uprising, freedom, and electricity. Many astrologers consider the truer name for Uranus to be Prometheus, as his myth of stealing fire for the people aligns with the Uranus story. We also see Uranus associated with the storm, with the bolt of lightning. Add Jupiter to that and you get a bigger storm.
In his book Cosmos and Psyche, Richard Tarnas identifies that Jupiter and Uranus in strong aspect prompt a lot of action. He says their interactions align to historical events like the French and Haitian revolutions, the development of the theory of evolution by Charles Darwin, “the first radio broadcast (1920), the the first sound motion picture (1927), the first television transmission (1927), the first Internet transmission(1969).” They were also opposing one another when Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs first constructed a personal computer.
Because this time the conjunction is happening in Taurus, on a societal level it calls into question our progress and beliefs about the environment. Have we taken the past years of disaster after disaster seriously enough to make systemic change that will help reverse the damage we’ve caused? Do we have what we need to spark the next step? Many accounts point to “no we have not”, but that doesn’t mean we can’t start now. One of the positive implications of the Uranian impulse is that sometimes the right time to act isn’t the best or easiest time to act.
Within your own chart, it’s worth looking at your Taurus house and reflecting on these themes. Consider these questions in relation to the themes of the house Taurus occupies as well as your life in general:
Have you experienced any surprises lately that are impacting your beliefs or causing you to grow?
Do any opportunities feel charged with potential?
What risk could you take right now with the greatest possible reward?
What long standing beliefs do you need to question? What would happen if they changed?
What traditions are we risking losing in our march toward progress? What do they mean to you?
What is worth carrying through the storm?
You’ll want to be extra intentional to ask these questions if you’re a Taurus Rising, an Aquarius Rising, a Scorpio Rising, or a Leo Rising. If your rising sign is one of the fixed signs, then this conjunction is occurring in an angular house and carries more weight.
